How you do business in Texas changed earlier this month, as new and revised forms became available, and several new laws took effect.
Check out the new forms
Revisions were made to 30 TREC and Texas REALTORS® forms, and three Texas REALTORS® new forms were added, to reflect changes to laws and because of the ongoing work by the Texas REALTORS® Forms Task Force and legal staff. See what changed here.
Written agreements with prospective buyers required
Updates to The Real Estate License Act now require you to have a written agreement with prospective buyers of residential property. You either need a representation agreement, or a showing-only agreement if the only service you’re providing is showing property. Learn more with this explainer and this flowchart.
New rules for evictions
Senate Bill 38 took effect January 1. It amended current law to streamline how landlords can evict certain people who aren’t entitled to enter, occupy, or remain in possession of the premises. The new law changes how time is calculated for the eviction process, as well as some requirements for notification. Learn more about the new law.
